While browsing through Walmart’s cosmetics department to repurchase my L’Oreal mascara I noticed that Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara was significantly cheaper! Knowing that many makeup artists and beauty gurus on Youtube have raved about this mascara over the years, I still reluctantly bought the mascara because I personally haven’t tried it before. For $3.96 I wouldn’t be losing too much anyway. Reading more reviews about this mascara lead me to writing a post dedicated to my top 5 makeup picks under $5. I know right?! UNDER $5!
Starting of with elf cosmetics, I ordered 2 items online from their huge collection: Ain’t that sweet Smudge pot & Makeup Mist & Set. All of their products are very affordable, cover a good range of skin types, and they have brushes too! I got the smudge pot and spray for $3 each and FREE shipping for signing up for their newsletter.
The smudge pot is shimmery and easily buildable. I liked using my ring finger when applying the product because I found that the product was a tad patchy. The colour pay off is moderate; you definitely have to build it up a bit but once you do, the product will not budge! I actually had to go over it with makeup remover twice to get it all of off! Now, I haven’t been able to really test out the mist & set spray yet, but when I do I’ll be posting my thoughts on my Instagram account. Feel free to follow me on Instagram for the update! 🙂
Onto essence cosmetics! This brand does not have a huge line but they do have the basics. I got an eyebrow gel for $2.99 and a lip liner for $1.99. If you ask me, those prices are a steal! I really like the brow gel because it’s clear and it dried relatively quickly. Since I have a healthy brow size and thickness, the brow gel was able to help me lock in loose eyebrow hairs. Meanwhile, I also liked the lip liner a lot! It went on really smoothly and it was very pigmented. I added a touch of gloss on top since I’m really into gloss right now, making my lips look plump. Did I mention that essence cosmetics is cruelty free too? 😉
Last but not the least, I tried the Maybelline Great Lash mascara in blackest black (waterproof) for about a week consistently. The formula works well with my lashes and I appreciate that the wand is small; that was helpful to getting at the very root of my lashes. Though, I didn’t like that it my bottom lashes were smudged after a long workday. Come to think of it, I had a similar experience with the Maybelline rocket mascara when I tried it a while back. That being said, I wouldn’t mind finishing the bottle before trying out different mascaras. It’s still a good product for the price and it did hold up my curls well.
This completes my top 5 under $5 for today! I might do a post a like this when I found more products. 🙂 Do you have a makeup item to add to this list? Share with us by leaving a comment below! 🙂
